To achieve purpose and belonging for individuals with special needs by actively contributing to their lives through educational, vocational, and recreational services for enhancing life-long learning.
The Jaybird Learning Academy’s vision is to become universally recognized for creativity and achievement by serving individuals with special needs.
The Jaybird Learning Academy (JLA) was founded by Marcel & Alicia Bowens in December of 2021. Like many parents who have children with special needs, they worked diligently in seeking the best resources and opportunities to help their children to lessen the impact of their disabilities. As their children approached the age of 22, like many parents or guardians of children with special needs, Marcel and Alicia began researching other opportunities for their children. The Bowens were often met with long wait lists for needed services and resources which could take up to 10+ years to be rendered. They saw this as a real problem within the special needs community as many special needs students were left with no resources as they aged out of high school. After identifying the problem, Marcel & Alicia established The Jaybird Learning Academy. JLA is a Domestic Nonprofit Corporation recognized by The Office of the Secretary of State in Texas. We are a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization and are approved by the Internal Revenue Service. JLA's board of directors and staff are committed to servicing each client as a National Provider (NPI) service agency.
