Our Vision
The Jaybird Learning Academy’s vision is to become universally recognized for creativity and achievement by serving individuals with special needs.
About Us
The Jaybird Learning Academy (JLA) was established by Marcel and Alicia Bowens in December of 2021. Faced with the challenge shared by many parents of children with special needs, Marcel and Alicia tirelessly sought out the best resources and opportunities to support their children, striving to mitigate the impact of their disabilities.
As their children approached the age of 18, Marcel and Alicia, like countless other parents and guardians in similar situations, embarked on a journey to explore alternative avenues for their children's continued care and development. However, they encountered a troubling reality: long waitlists for essential services and resources, some stretching as far as 10+ years into the future. This widespread issue within the special needs community left many individuals without the necessary support systems as they transitioned out of high school.
Recognizing this pressing need, Marcel and Alicia took action. They founded The Jaybird Learning Academy (JLA) to address the gaps in support and resources for individuals with special needs. Registered as a Nonprofit Corporation with recognition from The Office of the Secretary of State in Texas, JLA operates as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization approved by the Internal Revenue Service.
At JLA, our mission is rooted in compassion, dedication, and a steadfast commitment to empowering individuals with special needs to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives. Through our comprehensive programs and unwavering support, we strive to make a positive difference in the lives of those we serve, fostering growth, independence, and inclusion within our community.
